- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central CommitteeNguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception in Hanoi on December 26 for visitingChairman of the Presidium of the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) CentralCommittee Shii Kazuo.

Party chief Trong expressed his belief that Shii’s visit, coinciding with the50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, will contribute to strengtheningtraditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries’ Parties andpeople. Read full story

- President Vo Van Thuong on December 26 signed a decision to present theBravery Order to Pham Quoc Viet, head of FAS Angel, a volunteer rescue team inHanoi, who risked his life to save people and property in a deadly fire in thecapital city in September. Read full story

- Corruption in basic public services like health care and education wouldseriously impact efforts in ensuring citizens' fundamental rights, heard aworkshop, themed “Identification and prevention of corruption in public sectorrelated to private sector – international experiences and recommendations forVietnam” in Hanoi on December 26.

The workshop was organised by the Party Central Committee’s Commission forInternal Affairs in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). It formedpart of a project to strengthen Vietnam’s implementation of the UN ConventionAgainst Corruption launched by UNDP, with the support of Norad. Read full story

- Vietnam attracted nearly 36.61 billion USD of foreign direct investment (FDI)this year to December 20, a rise of 32.1% year on year, according to theForeign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Of the total, 20.19 billion USD was invested in 3,188 new projects, ayear-on-year surge of 62.2% in capital and 56.6% in project number, the agencyreported. Read full story

- Vietnam needs to adopt various solutions, particularly those to improve thequality of human resources to increase productivity, in order to achieve the2024 growth target set by the National Assembly, said Nguyen Thi Huong, head ofthe General Statistics Office (GSO).

The legislature sets the goals that the national GDP would grow 6-6.5% in theyear, and GDP per capita would stand at between 4,700 USD and 4,730 USD. Theprocessing and manufacturing industry is also projected to account for 24.1% -24.2% of the GDP. Read full story

The event was jointly held by the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association and theHanoi Department of Culture and Sports on the occasion of the 20th anniversaryof the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible CulturalHeritage (2003 Convention). National Assembly Chairman arrives in Türkiye for attendance at IPU-152

The IPU-152 carries the theme “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations”. NA Chairman Man is scheduled to deliver a keynote address outlining Vietnam’s perspectives on global and regional issues, while putting forward concrete solutions to foster inter-parliamentary cooperation, contributing to maintaining peace, stability while driving sustainable and prosperous development worldwide.

Vietnam, Italy agree on new cooperation directions

Both sides agreed to facilitate market access for key export products, and prioritise cooperation in investment attraction and technology transfer in emerging and strategic sectors such as new energy, renewable energy and automation, while continuing to strengthen existing cooperation in textiles, footwear, climate change response, electronics, culture and tourism.

Vietnam, China enhance public security ties

Amid complex developments in the global and regional situation, the two sides agreed on the need to enhance substantive political trust, fight transnational crime, and accelerate negotiations and the signing of new cooperation agreements in line with international law and legal frameworks of both countries.
