Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien and Japanese Vice Minister of Defence Masami Oka co-chaired the ninth Vietnam-Japan Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo on March 13.

At the annual dialouge, both sides discussed the global and regional issues of shared concern, especially traditional security issues and emerging non-traditional challenges. Read full story

- Secretary General of the Vietnamese National Assembly Bui Van Cuong delivered a speech on gender equality in parliaments at the plenary session of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain on March 13 (local time). Read full story

- Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with the Republic of Korea (RoK) and wishes to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with the Northeast Asian country, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai told RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Oh Young-ju. - The Can Tho University in collaboration with the Global Crop Diversity Trust held a seminar in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on March 13 to discuss biodiversity for opportunities, livelihoods and development in Vietnam.

The theme of the event was also part of a project that will be launched in Vietnam during 2023-2024, with a budget of 477,460 USD funded by the Norwegian Government and 310,000 USD from institutes and universities. Read full story

- Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 13 for UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Brunei Mark Garnier and UK Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Emily Hamblin to discuss two-way trade toward celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year.

Dien congratulated the UK on completing the fifth talks on joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Vietnam’s southern province of Kien Giang in early March. Read full story

- Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh hosted a reception for his Lao counterpart Bunthong Duonsavan on March 13 in Hanoi, during which he affirmed that Vietnam welcomes delegations from Lao ministries and sectors to  learn experience in developing trade and industry. - The southern province of Binh Duong wishes to strengthen cooperation with and attract more investment from Laval city in Canada’s Quebec region, as well as Canadian businesses, said Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mai Hung Dung.

During an investment promotion conference with representatives from Laval city on March 13 in Binh Duong, Dung said the province is calling on investment in hi-tech, less labour-intensive and environmentally friendly industries and those that create high economic value such as financial services, logistics, supporting industry, and high-tech agriculture. - Vietnam’s economic growth is projected to ease to 6.3% in 2023 from a robust 8% last year, as services growth moderates and higher prices and interest rates weigh on households and investors, according to the World Bank's report released on March 13. Read full story

- The Health Ministry’s Department of Health Examination and Treatment Management held a conference in Hanoi on March 13 to review a project on health care and rehabilitation for Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin victims for 2018-2022.

- As many as 71 photographs winning the 12th Vietnam Art Photo Contest and Exhibition 2023 were hounoured at an award ceremony at the Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature Complex) in Hanoi on March 13.

Hosted by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) and sponsored by the International Federation of Photographic Art (Fédération internationale de l'art photographique, FIAP) and the Image Without Frontier (Image sans Frontière - ISF), this was a practical activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam's photography (March 15, 1953 – 2023).
