- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 27 for visiting Vice President of the World Bank (WB) Manuela V. Ferro and WB Country Director Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia Mariam J. Sherman, along with their associates.

PM Chinh expressed his appreciation for the WB’s contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development since 1993, with total funding of up to 24 billion USD, especially in poverty reduction. Read full story

- The top legislators of Japan and Belarus have sent letters of congratulations to Tran Thanh Man over his election as Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) at the 15th legislature's 7th sitting.

- A total of 98,825 enterprises were established or resumed operations in the first five months of 2024, up 4.1% over the same period of last year and 1.2 times higher than the average in the 2019-2023 period, according to the Department for Business Registration Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

Of the total, there were 64,758 newly-established enterprises with combined registered capital of over 601.22 trillion VND (23.62 billion USD), 5.7% higher than the figure of the same period last year. Read full story

- The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has halted its gold bullion auctions and will introduce a new strategy to stabilise gold prices as early as June 3.

From April 19, the SBV held nine auctions to sell gold bars to the market. Six of them were successful, releasing a total of 48,500 taels of gold. However, the remaining auctions were cancelled due to a lack of participating members placing deposits and bids. All auctions involved SJC-branded gold bars. Read full story

- Coach of the national football team Kim Sang Sik has called 27 players for training ahead of FIFA Days in June and the last two matches within the second round of 2026 FIFA World Cup AFC qualification in Asia, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said on May 27.
