- Party General Secretary To Lam on March 15 chaired a meeting of the sub-committee in charge of drafting documents for the 14th National Party Congress, in which he requested that the Political Report should be a "torch" to light the way for the country's development in the coming period.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed the northern province of Vinh Phuc to show higher determination, stronger efforts and drastic actions in economic development, contributing to completing the country’s target of over 8% growth for this year and double-digit expansion in the years ahead.

Working with the Vinh Phuc Party Committee's Standing Board on March 16, the PM asked Vinh Phuc to renew the traditional growth drivers of investment, exports, and consumption while promoting new ones such as digital transformation, green transition, circular economy, sharing economy and knowledge economy, as well as new industries like semiconductors and AI. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project in the northern province of Vinh Phuc on March 16. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate closely to ensure the project’s timely completion.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on Prof. Thomas Vallely, Senior Advisor for Vietnam at the Columbia University’s Southeast Asia Institute (USA) and his colleagues to continue with policy consultations to help Vietnam reach its 8% economic growth target in 2025 and achieve double-digit growth in the following years.

In a reception in Hanoi on March 15 for Vallely, PM Chinh congratulated Vallely on receiving the US Presidential Citizens Medal bestowed by President Joe Biden, praising his role in fostering the bilateral ties, especially in education and policy dialogue. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued Official Dispatch No 23/CĐ-TTg requesting acceleration of vaccination against measles as the number of cases is on the rise.

The PM asked the Minister of Health (MoH) to direct and support localities to promote measles vaccination campaign and complete it no later than the end of this month. Read full story

- Following the upcoming Party Central Committee meeting in mid-April, a national conference will be held to implement the merger of provincial-level administrative units and the restructuring of commune-level units, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra announced.

The minister stressed that relevant ministries and agencies must issue necessary guiding documents to facilitate the mergers and restructuring after the Party Central Committee meeting. She noted that lessons learned from the past district- and commune-level administrative restructuring will serve as a foundation for this new phase. Read full story

- The United Nations Secretary-General has officially announced that Vietnam has completed the deposit of a chart and a list of geographic coordinates of points regarding the baseline for measuring the breadth of its territorial sea in the Gulf of Tonkin.

According to the UN Secretary-General’s announcement to member states dated March 12, 2025, Vietnam on March 7, 2025 deposited with the UN Secretary-General, pursuant to Article 16, paragraph 2 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the chart showing straight baselines and outer limits of the territorial sea, as well as a list of geographic coordinates of points regarding the baseline for measuring the breadth of the territorial sea of the mainland territory of Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin. - The northwestern province of Dien Bien is seeking continued support from the French Embassy in Vietnam in promoting its potential to French individuals, organisations and investors, aiming to attract more investments and projects.

- Vietnam Airlines is set to resume its direct Hanoi-Moscow flights on May 8 after a three-year suspension, bolstering air connectivity and driving tourism and trade recovery between Vietnam and Russia.

In the initial phase, the national flag carrier will operate two flights per week on Tuesday and Thursday, using Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft. From July 2026, the frequency will increase to three flights per week to accommodate rising demand./. Read full story

Vinh Phuc urged to take more drastic actions for stronger growth

Vinh Phuc's GRDP growth for 2021–2025 is projected at 7.4%, with total economic output expected to reach 190 trillion VND (7.45 billion USD) by 2025, 1.53 times higher than in 2020. Annual per capita GDP is forecast to rise to 148 million VND, while labour productivity is improving at an average of 11% per year.

National conference on provincial mergers scheduled

Currently, Vietnam has 10,035 commune-level administrative units, which will be consolidated into approximately 2,000 larger communes, each operating similarly to a small district. This restructuring is expected to begin immediately after the Party Central Committee's April meeting.

PM sets higher requirements for 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project

The 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line is a strategic national infrastructure project approved by the Government, with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) as the investor. The double-circuit transmission line will span 229.5 kilometers, with 468 tower foundations across the four northern provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc. The total investment for the project is over 7.41 trillion VND (290.41 million USD).

Defence industry should become a spearhead of national industry: PM

Domestically developed defence products, particularly strategic ones, have been laying the foundation for a strong, independent, and modern defence industry with dual-use applications. The sector should become a spearhead of the nation’s overall industry, PM Chinh stated.

Vietnam seeks stronger green finance cooperation with Luxembourg

The trip aims to study Luxembourg’s experience in developing an international financial centre and to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation with the local government, financial institutions, investment funds, and banks. These discussions are expected to contribute to Vietnam’s plans to establish international and regional financial centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
