An emotional burial service for General Giap took place in Vung Chua – Dao Yen area in his native province of Quang Binh at 4pm on October 13.
Thousands of mourners were present at the burial site to pay their last respects to their beloved General. Mourners’ faces showed sorrow and grief while holding General Giap’s portrait.
President Truong Tan Sang was among mourners who bid farewell to General Giap at his final resting place in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.
Earlier, thousands of mourners from all corners of the nation waited for the deceased along the nearly 70-km road from Dong Hoi Airport to the General’s resting place.
Vietnam observed national mourning for General Giap between October 11 and October 13. The country also held national funeral for the national hero, the country’s highest honour.
On the morning of the same day, a memorial service for General Giap was held solemnly at the National Morgue at 5 Le Thanh Tong street , Hanoi .
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung joined others at the service.
The whole nation mourned for the national hero whose name will forever be entwined with Vietnam ’s glorious triumph in the two resistance wars against oppressive French and US forces, as well as the subsequent national construction and defence.
International friends have also shown their respect and admiration for the General’s great contributions to the world’s revolutionary movements, for peace, national freedom and social progress.-VNA
