New Delhi (VNA) –Myanmar and Bangladesh on November 22 started talks on the repatriation ofthousands of Rohingya Muslims.

A Bangladeshi delegation led by ForeignSecretary MD Shahidul Haque attended the negotiations between the twocountries. A memorandum of understanding is hoped to be reached after thetalks, paving the way for the two countries to repatriate all Rohingya people fromBangladesh to Myanmar.

A final meeting between ForeignMinister of Bangladesh Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali and Myanmar’s State CouncillorAung San Suu Kyi is expected to be held in Nay Pwi Taw capital city of Myanmaron November 23.

The two countries have to date agreedon principal the repatriation, but there remain differences.

Government security operations werelaunched in Rakhine state after Rohingya Muslim insurgents attacked police andmilitary outposts on August 25. The operations led to more than 600,000Rohingyas fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh.-VNA

KPDN Enforcement Director Azman Adam said on May 10 that authorities had made 161 arrests, with the total value of seized goods estimated at 23.17 million MYR (5.9 million USD). Diesel-related offences accounted for the largest number of cases at 249, followed by petrol-related violations with 119 cases.
