Hanoi (VNA) - The National Assembly (NA) began the first working day of the second phase of the 10th session on November 2, focusing discussions on socio-economic development issues.
Before the session, lawmakers observed a minute of silence in memory of the officers, soldiers, and people who died during the recent floods in the central region.
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that hundreds of people have been killed by floods and landslides or are listed as missing, with many bodies yet to be found.
It is a terrible loss for the bereaved families and the country as a whole, she said.
In the second phase of the 10th session, Ngan said, the legislature will approve resolutions on a socio-economic development plan, State budget estimates, and a central budget allocation plan for 2021.
The legislative body is also expected to make several decisions on personnel matters and conduct Q&A sessions on the implementation of its resolutions on specialised supervision and other sessions during the 14th working tenure, and several resolutions from the 13th tenure.
Lawmakers will exchange opinions on draft documents to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress and decide on a date for national elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils in the 2021-2026 terms.
On the morning of November 2, groups of deputies discussed the outcomes of the implementation of socio-economic development and State budget plans in 2020, socio-economic development plans and budget estimates and allocations for 2021, and outcomes of the implementation of NA resolutions on socio-economic development, economic, and financial restructuring and mid-term public investment.
Deputy Tran Anh Tuan from HCM City suggested the Government work out different growth scenarios instead of just one of the 6 percent growth in 2021.
Deputy Tran Hoang Ngan, also from the southern city, and deputy Nguyen Anh Tri from Hanoi proposed the Government use 2020 reserves to provide more support for disaster-hit localities in the central region and help local people stabilise their lives shortly./.
