HCM City (VNA) – A concert marking the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and the 35th anniversary of All-People Defence Festival (December 22) took place in Ho Chi Minh City on December 22 evening.
Directed by the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence, and the municipal Party Committee and organised by the Army Radio and Television Centre and relevant units, the event saw the presence of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, and others.
The occasion was not merely a celebration of historical and revolutionary values but a testament to the enduring spirit of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” and their immense contributions to the cause of national construction and defence.
For the first time in its decade-long history, the event had been held outdoors, adorned with 1,500 national flags and military banners. The stage setup was equally impressive, featuring a sprawling 55m-wide platform equipped with state-of-the-art technology and diverse visual effects.
The concert unfolded in three chapters with 17 standout performances that celebrated the VPA’s heroic legacy while casting a hopeful vision toward the future.
Over 1,000 professional artists and the renowned Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, the Saigon Choice Choir, and talented bands from Hanoi, came together to create an unforgettable experience.
The audiences were treated to stirring renditions of iconic pieces such as “Tien quan ca” (Marching Song), “Chien sy Viet Nam” (Vietnamese Soldiers), “Giai dieu To quoc” (Melody of the Homeland), and “Tien buoc duoi quan ky” (Marching Under the Military Flag). They were masterfully blended with timeless revolutionary songs reinterpreted in a contemporary semi-classical symphony orchestra style.
