National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung held talks with his Thai counterpart Somsak Kiatsuranont in Bangkok on December 3.
At the talks, Hung said his visit aims to boost and deepen the friendship between the two legislatures and the two countries.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese NA supports the timely transformation of their bilateral ties into a strategic partnership. It will advance the two countries’ developing relations in a more intense and practical manner, benefiting the two peoples as well as peace, stability and development in the region, he added.
The Vietnamese leader said he is pleased with the recent development in relations between the two NAs, with the regular exchange of all-level delegations.
The two countries’ parliamentarians have always consulted, cooperated and supported each other at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), he said.
Hung also affirmed that the Vietnamese NA is ready to cooperate with its Thai counterpart in promoting and supervising the implementation of agreements reached by the two Governments, bringing practical and effective results to both sides.
Kiatsuranont expressed his wish that the two NAs and Governments will continue strengthening cooperation in all aspects for the development and prosperity of each country as well as for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Sharing strengths in rice production and export, Vietnam and Thailand should closely cooperate to become the region’s leading countries in food security, he said.
During the talks, parliamentarians from both countries agreed to further foster cooperation in culture, transport, education and rice production between the two countries as well as among those in the region.
They agreed to strengthen all-level delegation exchanges and increase operations in the Vietnam-Thailand and Thailand-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Associations, to better bridge the sound friendship and cooperation between both countries.
