NA Chairman receives IPU Secretary General

Vienna (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman VuongDinh Hue hosted a reception for Secretary General of the Inter-ParliamentaryUnion (IPU) Martin Chungong on September 7 during his trip to attend the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments (WCSP5) inVienna, Austria.

The Vietnamese NA leaderappreciated the contributions made by the IPU Secretary General to the organizationof the WCSP5, and to the IPU’s activities amidst the difficulties posed by theCOVID-19 pandemic and unpredictable changes in the world’s geopoliticalsituation.

The IPU Secretary General saidthe attendance of NA Chairman Hue and the Vietnamese delegation at the WCSP5again showed that Vietnam is a responsible and active member of the IPU.

He shared the viewpoint expressed by the Vietnamese NA leader at the firstplenary debate of the WCSP5 on promoting multilateral cooperation to respond toglobal challenges for the world’s development. He underlined the importance ofparliaments in the world to the settlement of global issues, saying that hehopes Vietnam will actively participate in the process.

The two sides comparednotes on the role of the UN, the key organization in multilateral cooperation,and valued the UN’s strong commitment as expressed in the messages of the UNSecretary General and the President of the UN General Assembly sent to the WCSP5.

Chungong also welcomed theproposal of Chairman Hue to further reform and enhance the effectiveness of IPU’soperation and role. Hue suggested strengthening the tripartite partnershipamong the UN, IPU and Vietnam, promoting more substantial engagement ofparliamentary meeting mechanisms alongside UN activities, and increasing IPU’ssupport for Vietnam in training in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy./.

Vinh Phuc urged to take more drastic actions for stronger growth

Vinh Phuc's GRDP growth for 2021–2025 is projected at 7.4%, with total economic output expected to reach 190 trillion VND (7.45 billion USD) by 2025, 1.53 times higher than in 2020. Annual per capita GDP is forecast to rise to 148 million VND, while labour productivity is improving at an average of 11% per year.

National conference on provincial mergers scheduled

Currently, Vietnam has 10,035 commune-level administrative units, which will be consolidated into approximately 2,000 larger communes, each operating similarly to a small district. This restructuring is expected to begin immediately after the Party Central Committee's April meeting.

PM sets higher requirements for 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project

The 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line is a strategic national infrastructure project approved by the Government, with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) as the investor. The double-circuit transmission line will span 229.5 kilometers, with 468 tower foundations across the four northern provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc. The total investment for the project is over 7.41 trillion VND (290.41 million USD).
