Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue led theVietnamese delegation to attend the virtual opening ceremony of the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-42), held byBrunei on August 23 morning.

AIPA-42,themed “Forging Parliamentary Cooperation in Digital Inclusion towards ASEANCommunity 2025”, is taking place via videoconference from August 23 to 25 withthe participation of leaders and legislators of AIPA member parliaments, observerdelegations, and the AIPA Secretary-General.

Inhis welcoming remarks, the AIPA-42 President and Speaker of the Legislative Councilof Brunei, Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela, congratulated Vietnamon successfully organising AIPA-41 via videoconference last year.

Henoted that as the theme of AIPA-42 says, member parliaments should promote andcreate conditions for digital inclusion and consider this as a measure forfurther enhancing parliamentary cooperation amid the pandemic.

Thetheme also highlights parliamentarians’ important role in supporting the ASEANvision of a politically cohesive, economically integrated, and sociallyresponsible community towards the ASEAN Community in 2025.

Suchnotable issues as women empowerment, climate change, cyber security, and internationaleconomic integration have been included in the AIPA-42 agenda, according to thespeaker.

Declaringthe opening of AIPA-42, Bruneian Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Chair of ASEAN2021, held that this year, the bloc stays responsive to unexpected events, andAIPA is in the process of promoting the cohesion among member parliaments so asto help build an increasingly cohesive ASEAN Community./.
