Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha has highlighted the significance of the freshly-ended visit to Russia by NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man from September 8-10.

Talking with the press, Ha said the visit coincided with the 30th signing anniversary of the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations between Vietnam and Russia (June 16, 1994-2024), and ahead of the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties next year.

According to the official, the visit followed Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam in June 2024. Notably, after President To Lam was elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Putin was the first foreign leader to hold phone talks with the Party chief, showing Russia's particular emphasis on its relationship with Vietnam.

The trip also marked Man's first foreign visit in his capacity as NA Chairman, underscoring the importance the Vietnamese Party and State have attached to the Vietnam-Russia relationship and parliamentary ties in particular.

During the visit, almost all of Russia's top leaders held talks and meetings with Man, covering the entire spectrum of bilateral ties across politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, oil and gas, energy, sci-tech, education and training, labour, national defence-security.

Ha noted that since President Putin's visit to Vietnam, both sides have been working closely together, performing numerous tasks, and continuing to develop the bilateral ties in more practical manner.

About the third meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee co-chaired by NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin, Ha said the discussions covered law-making experience and supervision, as well as global and regional issues of shared concern.

Notably, the meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee for Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation was also co-chaired by two Deputy Prime Ministers from September 11-12 following the visit.

A joint communiqué of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee’s third meeting was also issued, underlining the need to share experience in law-making and law enforcement supervision, offer mutual support at global and regional inter-parliamentary forums and facilitate the exchange of delegations at all levels, he added./.
