Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Vice ChairmanPhung Quoc Hien held talks with his Lao counterpart Bounpone Bouttanavong inHanoi on August 19.

Both sides agreed to work closely together to organise visits by the twolegislatures’ leaders, hold thematic seminars and training courses on lawbuilding.

The two NAs will consider establishing a joint group in charge of monitoringactivities of border gates in order to facilitate two-way trade.

The NA committees will also oversee the implementation of signed cooperationagreements under their watch.

At the talks, both sides also informed each other about situation of each Partyand country at present, especially Party building and preparations for partycongresses at all levels towards the National Party Congress of each nation.

Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien expressed his delight atgrowing bilateral economic ties with a two-way trade of over 1 billion USD lastyear. The first-half figure was 575 million USD, up nearly 15.6 percent.Imports from Laos rose by 3.4 percent annually to around 229 million USD.

Bouttanavong, for his part, lauded Vietnam’s achievements inthe implementation of documents set at the 12th National Party Congress.

He hoped that ties between the two legislatures will becomemore substantial in the future.-VNA

Vietnamese, Panamanian leaders meet the press following talks

Both sides agreed that there is ample room for cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and services. They pledged to step up joint work in the economic, trade, investment, agriculture, port logistics, finance, banking, tourism and transport sectors, as well as other areas of mutual strength. They also plan to continue negotiating agreements on investment protection, aviation and other areas to create a more favourable framework for expanding cooperation.

The documents include an agreement on maritime transport cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and Panama, an agreement on cooperation in combating transnational crime, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, and an MoU on tourism cooperation between the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Panama Tourism Authority.
