Helsinki (VNA) – National AssemblyChairman Vuong Dinh Hue met Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in the capitalcity of Helsinki on September 10 (local time), as part of his ongoing officialvisit to the European country.

Hue said with delightthat it is the first Finland visit by a top Vietnamese legislator after 28 yearsof promoting the comprehensive partnership between the two countries. He congratulated theEuropean country on its all-around achievements, especially in digitaltransformation, innovation and social welfare.

As Vietnam isone of the countries hardest hit by climate change, he wished Finland wouldshare its experience and partner with the country in digital transformation,innnovation, sustainable development and climate change response.

According tohim, there are about 2,500 Vietnamese students and over 8,000 overseasVietnamese living and working in Finland so that they could learn from the hostcountry’s experience in building a start-up ecological system.

He expressed his hope that Finland will create favourable conditions for the Vietnamesecommunity in the European country, thus fostering bilateral ties.

Hue suggested the President push forward the Finnish parliament’s ratification of theEuropean Union – Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and the twocountries should take specific steps to make full use of opportunities broughtabout by the deal.

President Niinisto,for his part, expressed his belief that Vietnam will continue with rapid andsustainable development.

He also sharedFinland’s experience in sustainable development with human as the mostimportant factor, adding that its current social welfare system is attributableto people’s continuous efforts.

He pledged toassist Vietnam in the field as well as bolster bilateral links acrossenvironment and global issues.

Both sidesshared the view that Vietnam and Finland hold the potential of furtherdeveloping their ties and agreed to hold practical activities towards the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (January 25, 1973 - 2023).

They highlightedthe stance on maintaining peace, stability, security, maritime and aviationsafety and freedom, settling disputes by peaceful means in line withinternational law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of theSea./.

Nationwide voting for 16th National Assembly, People’s Councils for 2026-2031 begins

According to the National Election Council, from 864 candidates, voters will elect 500 deputies to the 16th National Assembly (1.73 candidates per seat). For provincial-level People’s Councils, voters will elect 2,552 deputies from 4,217 candidates (1.65 candidates per seat). For commune-level People’s Councils, voters will elect 72,611 deputies from 120,873 candidates (1.66 candidates per seat).
