BacNinh (VNA) – A national meeting took place in the northern provinceof Bac Ninh on March 22 in response to the UN’s annual World Water Day.
Addressingthe event, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha stressedthis year’s “Wastewater” theme sends out a message that recycling wastewatercould help improve water sources for living things on earth.
Vietnamis located in the downstream area. Two third of its river water resourcesoriginate outside the country, making it susceptible to relevant decisions madein upstream countries.
Vietnam’saverage domestic water resource is estimated to stand at 3,600 m3 per personper year, well below the world figure of 4,000 m3. Pressures from economicgrowth and growing population have led to water pollution, degradation anddepletion.
Takingnote of the Government’s attempt to boost water resources protection andsustainable use, the minister called for the community’s concerted efforts totackle environmental challenges in general and wastewater in particular.
Chairmanof the Bac Ninh People’s Committee Nguyen Tu Quynh said his province is growingrapidly with significant environmental problems, particularly wastewater fromcraft business and household activities.
Heurged active participation of the whole society in improving and protectingwater resources.
Participatinginternational organisations and domestic businesses shared a commitment ofcollaborating in addressing water resources challenges and striving forsustainability in development.-VNA
