As many as 19 national roads with a total length of 2,424 km in the Mekong Delta will be built or upgraded by 2020, contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.

The construction is part of the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 356 on the adjustment of Vietnam’s 2020 road development plan, with a vision towards 2030.

Accordingly, the 235 km N1 route, which connects Long An and Kien Giang provinces and runs along the Vietnam-Cambodia border, will be built with two lanes.

The 440km N2 route between Binh Duong and Kien Giang provinces will be also built to the same standard. Other existing roads linking Mekong Delta provinces will be upgraded while the construction of major bridges including Co Chien and Dai Ngai on road 50 and Dinh Khao on road 57 is expected to be completed by 2020.

Transportation infrastructure is considered the region’s weakness.-VNA
