National work-site safety week to be launched

The 12th national week for worksite safety, hygiene and fire prevention will be launched in the northern city of Thai Nguyen.

The announcement was made by Vu Nhu Van, Deputy Director of Labour Safety Department under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs at a press briefing in Hanoi on March 2.

During the week beginning on March 14, seminars on the issue will be held with the participation of a number of organisations and companies. In addition, inspections will be carried out at some enterprises to prevent possible accidents and fires.

According to preliminary statistics, more than 6,200 accidents at worksites occurred in the country last year, killing 550 workers. Last year also saw over 1,900 fires and 18 explosions, claiming the lives of 78 people and injuring 187 others./.
