The People’s Committee of the central province of Binh Thuan and the Ministry of Transport on December 5 announced plans for the province’s Phan Thiet airport.
Covering 543 hectares, it will be located in Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city, and act as a civil and military airport.
In phase one to 2020, a 5,000 square metre terminal will be built to serve up to 500,000 passengers and 10,000 tonnes of cargoes per year.
Set to cost 5.6 trillion VND (266.7 million USD), the airport will be put into service in 2017 and transport passengers from Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang and Da Nang city to Phan Thiet in only 30 – 45 minutes.
Deputy Minister of Transport Pham Quy Tieu said that Binh Thuan owns a favourable geographic location which can facilitate its socio-economic development. However, an airport and transport shortage has hindered its growth.
This plan will help Binh Thuan advance its economic development and attract more investors and tourists to Phan Thiet, he added.-VNA
