Toronto (VNA) – A new book on President Ho Chi Minh by Dr. Nguyen Dai Trang, co-Chairwoman of the Canada  – Vietnam Society and member of the Canada – Vietnam Trade Council, has debuted at Toronto University.

It was Trang’s third book about the late President. Her two previous ones are “Ho Chi Minh: Heart and talent of a patriot” and “Ho Chi Minh: Humanity and Development”, which were released in 2010 and 2013, respectively.

The 236-page book, written in English, French and Vietnamese languages, features a selection of the President’s articles about peace, democracy and gender equality, including 25 messages sent to leaders of the US and countries from 1919 to 1969; and 25 articles about peace, including letters sent to Pope Paulus VI and Nobel Peace Laureate, Prof. Linus Pauling.

Speaking at the event, Trang said she chose the three themes of peace, democracy and gender equality for the book because they received great attention by President Ho when he was alive, and are still relevant today.

She believed that the book, which includes original documents from the Pentagon Papers announced by the US government in 2011, will help readers, especially foreigners, gain a more accurate insight into the late President’s personality and the legacy left by him.

Chairwoman of the Toronto chapter of the Organisation of Women in International Trade Anita Agrawal expressed her respect for the President for his strong will for national liberation and his dedication and revolutionary ethics.

Director of the York Institute of Asian Research, Prof. Abidin Kusno, said the book not only sheds new light on the person of the late President but also highlights the need to review the histories of colonial countries.

During an open discussion after the book’s debut, participants raised questions about the life and career of the late President, the impact of his thoughts on young generations today, and his stance on peace, democracy and gender equality.-VNA
