The Da Nang City People’s Committee and the US Pacific Command (USPC) on August 9 opened a centre for early warning and flood management to mark the 15th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties.
The centre is built on an area of over 1,000 sq.m with a total capital of more than 450,000 USD. In the future, the US will provide more equipment for early warning and flood management for the centre, ensuring it is in operation before the rainy season this year.
Deputy chairman of Da Nang municipal People’s Committee Phung Tan Viet said the new centre would help Da Nang gain initiative in preventing floods and reducing damage as the stormy season arrives.
US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak said this was the third humanitarian project the USPC has supported in Da Nang, and the opening of the centre would help the city raise forecast capability and minimise loss of lives and materials during natural disasters./.
