The provincial news website baobinhthuan.com said the port, locatednext to the Vinh Tan Thermal Power in Tuy Phong district, is designed tohave two general wharfs, which can receive vessels of up to 30,000deadweight tonnage (DWT) and one wharf, which will serve ships and cargoof up to 3,000 DWT.
The port has been included inthe Vietnam Seaport System Development Planning for 2020 and orientationfor 2030 approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung last June.
It will meet demand for exports and imports, as well associo-economic development, in Binh Thuan and the neighbouringprovinces.
Thus, the Vinh Tan General Port, once operational, will play a significant role in the Southern Central Area.
Theport's construction is estimated to cost 1.336 trillion VND (61.8million USD), and it is expected to receive from 2 to 2.4 million tonnesof cargo this year and between 4 and 6 million tonnes per year by 2020.-VNA
