Police in the central province of Nghe An, in collaboration with the Drug Crime Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security, on October 26 discovered a group of Lao citizens smuggling drugs into Vietnam.

Nghe An (VNA) – Police in thecentral province of Nghe An, in collaboration with the Drug Crime Investigation Department under the Ministry ofPublic Security, on October 26 discovered a group of Lao citizens smugglingdrugs into Vietnam.

The groupentered Vietnam through the forest at midnight and was discovered by localauthorities at Kem slope in Xop Pu village, Yen Na commune, Tuong Duongdistrict.

Especially,they also carried AK rifles and grenades, and opened fire against the policein attempt to flee.

A Lao citizen,who has yet to be identified, was killed from a gunshot wound. Two othersuspects escaped.

At the scene,authorised agencies seized three heroin bricks, along with 12,000 meth pills, arifle, two grenades and 18 bullets.

The case isbeing further investigated.

One dayearlier, the border guard force in the neighbouring province of Ha Tinh andauthorised forces arrested two men who were smuggling 32 kg ofmethamphetamine and ten bricks of heroin from Laos to Vietnam.

TranXuan Thanh (born in 1988 in Yen Thanh district, central Nghe An province andliving in Vientiane, Laos) and Vo Quoc Duong (born in 1977 and residing in DienChau district, Nghe An province) were caught red handed with 30 kg ofmethamphetamine.

Examiningtheir car registered in Laos, the authorities found and seized an additionalten bricks of heroin and 2 kg of methamphetamine.

Thearrested admitted that they transported the drugs from Laos to Vietnam forconsumption.-VNA
