Ha Tinh (VNA) - The border guard force in the central province ofHa Tinh and authorized forces on October 25 arrested two men who were smuggling32 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and ten bricks of heroin from Laos toVietnam.

Tran Xuan Thanh (born in 1988 in Yen Thanh district, central Nghe An provinceand living in Vientiane, Laos) and Vo Quoc Duong (born in 1977  and residing in Dien Chau district, Nghe Anprovince) were caught red handed with 30 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

Examining their car registered in Laos, the authorities found and seized anadditional ten bricks of heroin and two kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

The arrested admitted that they transported the drugs from Laos to Vietnam forconsumption.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Earlier this month, Policein Bach Thong district, the northern province of Bac Kan also arrested threemen who were transported 198 bricks of heroin from Laos into Vietnam. The drugwas believed to be forwarded to China.

Trieu Van Vinh (born in 1986, residing in Thai Nguyen province), Trieu Van Luc(born in 1996, residing in Thai Nguyen province), and Giang A Di (born in 1995in Dien Bien province) were caught while attempting to transport the drug onNational Highway 3 in Khuoi Sla village, Tu Tri commune, Bach Thong district.

The drugs, worth some 40 billion VND (1.7 million USD), was hidden in anexcavator.

The province’s police also arrested Vang A Minh (born in 1978, residing in DienBien province) for his involvement in the case. Minh admitted that he was hiredto transport the drug from Laos to China via Cao Bang province for 1 billionVND (42,800 USD). Meanwhile, Di said that he were promised 200 million VND(8,500 USD) if the transportation was successful.-VNA

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing
