Seventy-six years ago, on the afternoon of August 30, 1945, Bao Dai - the last emperor of the Nguyen dynasty, read to a large crowd an edict of abdication, then handed over his power-symbolized golden seal and sword to representatives of the provisional government of Vietnam in front of the Ngo Mon Gate in Hue city.
