Nguyen Dynasty’s diplomacy comes to life in 3D exhibition

The 3D exhibition featuring hundreds of documents on the diplomatic activities of the Nguyen Dynasty, is now open to the public. The event commemorates Vietnam’s Diplomatic Service Day on August 28.

The exhibition offers the public a chance to delve into the diplomatic strategies of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1858), providing valuable insights and a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s historical foreign relations.

Showcasing official documents recognized as a UNESCO World Documentary Heritage, the event is divided into two sections.

The first section, titled “Closing the Door to the West,” highlights the Nguyen emperors' consistent policy of self-defense and isolation from Western nations, particularly Britain, France, and the United States.

Despite this stance, the Nguyen Dynasty still sent missions to observe Western countries, acquiring technology and scientific advancements, and occasionally welcomed Western ships.

The second section, themed “Opening to the East,” illustrates how the Nguyen Dynasty prioritized relationships with Eastern countries, especially China.

The exhibition is accessible online through the website and fanpage of the National Archives Center I from August 22./.
