Nguyen Hoa Binh elected as President of Council of ASEAN Chief Justices

Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh was elected as President of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) for the 2020-2021 tenure during the eight meeting of the council on November 5.

Hanoi (VNA) -
Chief Justice of the SupremePeople’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh was elected as President of theCouncil of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) for the 2020-2021 tenure during theeight meeting of the council on November 5. 

At the online meeting, hosted by the Vietnamese court,delegates reached high consensus on many issues, notably the approval of theaction plan for six CACJ working groups.

At the end of the event, they signed the Hanoi Statement,which highlights the success of the first-ever online meeting of the CACJthanks to Vietnam’s thorough preparations. 

The council took note of the severe impacts of the COVID-19pandemic on the socio-economic development of most ASEAN member countries,which has put pressures on courts to handle a large number of cases whilepreventing the spread of the disease. 

The document also acknowledged the initiatives raised byVietnam and courts of other ASEAN member countries regarding solutions to dealwith the pandemic’s impacts, with the aim of promptly addressing cases,protecting legal rights and interests of people, and strictly handling andpreventing violations of regulations on pandemic prevention and control, whileensuring safety and minimising the risks of epidemic spread during thesettlement. 

In his closing remarks, Binh said the success of the meetingdemonstrated the development of a harmonious, self-resilient, innovative,cohesive, responsible and responsive ASEAN. 

The official expressed his hope that the council willcomplete all of its set plans and grow further, and pledged to closelycoordinate with other chief justices and colleagues of supreme people’s courtsin ASEAN, and make efforts to fulfill his tasks, contributing to thedevelopment and success of the council./.

FLC appeal hearing postponed, giving more time for compensation

After discussions and listening to opinions from lawyers, defendants, and victims present at the trial, the judicial panel stated that postponing the appeal hearing for Trinh Van Quyet, ex-chairman of FLC Group, is necessary to ensure the rights of the victims.
