Hanoi (VNA) – Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, who is alsoChairwoman of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) SponsorshipCouncil, held a meeting in Hanoi on January 6 with outstanding donors who hadgreat contributions to activities for children in 2018.

Praising thepositive contributions of individuals, units, enterprises and members of theNFVC to the care for children, Thinh highlighted the pervasive effects of childcare and education programmes last year.

According to theVice President, the NFVC has become more prestigious and attracted theparticipation of many donors.

The VicePresident voiced her hope that organisations, individuals and enterprises athome and abroad will maintain their contributions both materially andspiritually to support more and more poor children and those living inunderprivileged circumstances.

In 2018, thefund raised 101 billion VND (4.36 million USD) to help nearly 105,000disadvantaged children by providing them with free surgical operations, scholarships, learning aids and bicycles or organising festivals for them.

However, thereare still 1.5 million children from disadvantaged backgrounds across thecountry and nearly 2.5 million could drop out of school.

Therefore, thefund set a target of mobilising 90 billion VND from both domestic and foreignresources for the care for, protection and education of children, thus helpingpromote four child rights: the right to life, the right to protection, theright to development and the right to participation.

On the same day,the NFVC collaborated with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs(MoLISA) to organise the 12th “Mua xuan cho em” (Spring forchildren) programme.

Addressing theevent, Vice President Thinh affirmed that over the past years, the Party andState have paid special attention to children, especially those living indisadvantaged circumstances.

On thisoccasion, the NFVC received over 150 billion VND (6.47 million USD) fromdomestic and foreign organisations, individuals and enterprises in support ofunderprivileged children.
