Around 44 trillion VND (over 2.3 billion USD) will be mobilised to build solid waste treatment plants nationwide between now and 2020, according to the Technical Infrastructure Department under the Ministry of Construction.

The money will be mobilised under the form of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) or BT (Build-Transfer) from central and local budgets along with soft loans from the Vietnam Development Bank.

The 2010-2020 urban solid waste treatment programme targets having all localities equipped with solid waste treatment plants by 2020.

By 2015, 85 percent of the total urban solid waste volume will be collected and treated under environmental standards, of which 60 percent will be recycled. The respective rates are expected to be 90 percent and 85 percent five years later./.
