Overseas Vietnamese celebrate Tet festival

The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore on January 27 evening held a get-together for Vietnamese in the country on the occasion of the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy inSingapore on January 27 evening held a get-together for Vietnamese in thecountry on the occasion of the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.

Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung briefed the participants onthe situation at home, as well as the Vietnam-Singapore relations, saying Singaporeremained one of the largest foreign investors in Vietnam, and the bilateralties have been developing more comprehensively.

He called on Vietnamese living and working inSingapore to build a strong community there, stay united, and preserve anduphold traditional culture.

On this occasion, the diplomat presented certificatesof merit to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to theVietnamese community in Singapore.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and theMalaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association co-organised a Tet festival at the BukitBintang centre in Kuala Lumpur on January 27-28, with its opening ceremonyattended by some Malaysian officials and representatives of local businesses.

In her remarks, Tran Thi Chang, President of theassociation, promised to continue supporting Vietnamese there, contributing totightening the Vietnam-Malaysia friendship.

Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh called on the Vietnamesecommunity to make more contributions to the development of both countries, aswell as the bilateral friendship, noting the Vietnamese language and cultureshould be further preserved.

Mohamed Amin, Senior Director of Domestic & Event,Tourism Malaysia, said special events like the festival have played a role inpromoting the good friendship between the two countries and exchanges betweentheir citizens.

The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is committed to supporting the establishment of the sister-city modelbetween Melaka and Hoi An, and Langkawi and Phu Quoc in the time ahead, henoted.

The festival featured a menu of activities promotingVietnamese cuisine and culture.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Consulate General in LuangPrabang of Laos in coordination with the Vietnamese community in northern Laoprovinces hosted a party with the participation of Lao officials.

In Australia, the social-charitable group "NewSunlight for Children" also met ahead of Tet, during which they made banh chung (square, glutinous rice cake)  - atraditional dish of Vietnamese people on the festival./.

Vietnam completes legal framework for forest carbon market

Dak Lak completes nearly 90% of plan to eliminate substandard houses

As of July 9, 8,526 houses had been newly built or repaired, including 6,626 new constructions and 1,900 repairs, achieving 89.5% of the target. Over 6,000 houses have been handed over and are now occupied, providing stable accommodation for families benefiting from social policies, as well as low-income and near-poor households.

Banking sector donates 3.1 million USD to housing programme

Since April 2024, the banking sector has committed a total of 1.36 trillion VND to the programme. Of this amount, 1.1 trillion VND has already been disbursed, while the remaining funds will be released following the issuance of allocation guidelines by the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs (180 billion VND) and the submission of complete documents by localities (85 billion VND).

Vietnam fosters young talent in astrophysics through int'l summer school

Can Tho reports no fishing violations in foreign waters for three years

Can Tho city is now home to 795 registered fishing vessels with a combined capacity of 209,648 horsepower. Among those, 346 vessels measure 15 metres or longer, requiring the installation of monitoring systems, and 28 vessels provide logistical support services to the fishing industry.

Vietnamese young intellectuals’ forum to highlight national development

Since its inception in 2018, the global forum of Vietnamese young intellectuals has attracted over 1,000 young intellectuals worldwide, contributing to programmes and policies related to developing young talents in Vietnam. The Global Vietnamese Young Intellectuals Network now has over 2,000 active members globally.

Vietnam, US see encouraging results in settling war consequences

Vietnam’s achievements in population management spotlighted

Vietnam still faces challenges in meeting its population and development goals. These include a rapidly declining birth rate (in 2024, the fertility rate dropped to just 1.91 children per woman) and a rapidly ageing population. Vietnam is among the fastest ageing countries, due to the low birth rate. The imbalance in the sex ratio at birth remains high, and teenage pregnancies are on the rise.
