Addressing the presentation ceremony held in the French southern city of Perpignan on April 14, French State representative Pierre Dianteill highlighted That’s contributions to France, particularly in humanity and culture and enhancing solidarity among nations.
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Le Kinh Tai congratulated Nguyen Thi That Peel and applauded her contributions to Vietnam and the relationship between France and Vietnam.
For her part, Nguyen Thi That Peel pledged to do her utmost with one part for both France and Vietnam. She said she would give top priority to outstanding nurturing youths in the homeland.
Born in 1941 in the southern province of Ben Tre, Nguyen Thi That came to France in 1959.
Since 1980, she has helped a number of French doctors to come to Vietnam for charitable activities and collected medicine and equipment for Ben Tre province.
During the time she served as an European Union (EU) representative in Vietnam, That made active contributions to accelerating the relations between Vietnam and the EU in general and France in particular.
Nguyen Thi That Peel, is now President of the France-Vietnam Culture Association.
The French highest distinction National Order of the Legion of Honour was founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to honour people with special contributions to France. At present, only just over 100,000 people out of the total French population of 65 million have been bestowed with the order./.
