Hanoi (VNA) – National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received Chief Justice of the Supreme Court ofSingapore Sundaresh Menon in Hanoi on September 16.

Welcoming the Singaporean delegation, the hostleader said their working visit, during which a memorandum of understanding oninformation exchange between the Supreme Court of Singapore and the SupremePeople’s Court of Vietnam has been signed, is of critical importance as it willhelp strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Chief Justice Menon said during the visit, hewill give a lecture on conciliation, noting that amidst growing internationaltrade disputes, conciliation will help change those disagreements. Besides,conciliation is also useful to the judicial sector as it will help save costsand time for the parties concerned.

The Supreme Court of Singapore is ready to shareexperience in this field with the Vietnamese counterpart, he added.

Chairwoman Ngan said the two countries have setup the strategic partnership, and many Singaporean businesses and investorshave operated successfully in Vietnam. Therefore, judicial cooperation willhelp facilitate bilateral economic, trade, investment and tourism activities.

She appreciated the Singaporean court’s supportfor and assistance in judicial cooperation activities with Vietnam, and highlyvalued the achievements that Singapore’s legal and judicial systems haveobtained, considering them the highlights in which it can share experience withother ASEAN countries.

The top legislator affirmed that the Vietnameseparliament supports the court system to make judicial reforms and encouragesthe Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam to enhance exchanges with and learnexperience from courts around the world, including Singapore.

She also lauded the ASEAN courts’ establishmentof the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices to serve as an ASEAN connectinginstitution, aside from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

On this occasion, via Chief Justice Menon,Chairwoman Ngan sent an invitation to the Speaker of the Singaporean Parliamentto pay an official visit to Vietnam./.

The Deputy PM expressed his hope that Lee will continue to support efforts to further advance Vietnam–Singapore relations in a more practical and effective manner, as well as provide advice and share experience in developing financial centres and promoting connectivity between the two countries’ international financial centres.
