Hanoi (VNA) -
As a trusted reserve force of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) who will inherit and uphold the achievements of the CPV and late President Ho Chi Minh, protecting the Party’s ideological foundation and refuting wrong and hostile viewpoints are one of the key and long-term tasks of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU).

In the recent past, the HCYU has spared no efforts in innovation to improve quality and efficiency of education in politics and ideology for its cadres, members and young people.

On the occasion of the 90th founding anniversary of the CPV (February 3), in an interview with VietnamPlus, Nguyen Ngoc Viet, member of the HCYU Central Committee’s Standing Board and Secretary of the HCYU of Hanoi, noted the role of young Party members on enhancing the combat readiness and protection of the CPV’s ideological foundation.

Due attention paid to improvement of Party members’ quality

Reporter: How do young Party members and HCYU members contribute to protecting the CPV’s ideological foundation?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: An emulation campaign called “The Vietnamese youth with the solid trust in the Party” was launched recently, aiming to disseminate the CPV’s history and its leadership on Vietnam’s revolutionary process.

The HCYU will work to bolster the trust of young generations and promote the admission of young people to the CPV.

Each member and HCYU chapters at the grassroots level must have responsibility for safeguarding the CPV’s ideological foundation.

In the present context, one of the leading tasks focuses on struggling in cyberspace. The HCYU chapters must be the pioneer and help young members resist and refute distorted arguments of hostile forces while disseminating the nation’s multifaceted achievements in the Doi moi (Renewal) process.

Reporter: What are particular features in the Hanoi HCYU’s implementation of the task?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: Hanoi’s HCYU has a large number of members who are young intellectuals. The municipal HCYU often holds activities for members and young people, particularly in universities and colleges, to enhance their capacity, creativeness and enthusiasm.

The CPV has not only paid due attention to the number of Party members but also the improvement of Party members’ quality. The HCYU holds an important role in introducing its outstanding members and young people for the admission to the Party.

In addition to professional knowledge, the youths need moral education to strengthen their political standpoint on the Party’s leadership and the path that President Ho Chi Minh and the country have chosen.

Reporter: What are significant milestones of Hanoi’s young Party members over the past 90 years?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: Members of the municipal HCYU have always been in the vanguard of national campaigns in response to the call of the Party during the resistance wars against France and the US.

In the current Renewal process, Hanoi’s youths also are the vanguard in business development and international integration. Programmes providing political and ideological knowledge for the youths are arranged to mark anniversaries and major political events of the city and the whole country.

In the recent past, up to 185 works at the district level and 685 at the commune level have been built at an estimated cost of over 15 billion VND (649,000 USD), along with new road sections and murals.

In 2019 alone, 579 toilets were built and upgraded with a budget of more than 12 billion VND.

Young Party members strive to become soldiers

Reporter: What are challenges and requirements in training and improving the quality of young Party members?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: Each period sets specific tasks for young Party members.

Party members need to further study and enhance knowledge as well as political mettle.

They need to be the pioneer in national safeguarding and applying scientific and technological achievements in economic development. They are soldiers in business and start-ups.

Reporter: Some young Party officials and members were disciplined for degradation in ideology and morality. The public are also concerned about the weakened Party ideology in a number of young people. What is your opinion?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong recently pointed out the matter, which requires the HCYU chapters to change their activties to persuade members and young people to recognise their shortcomings as they often lack practical experience.

In my opinion, young Party members need to keep on learning and enhancing knowledge and stand ready to come to disadvantaged areas to challenge themselves and gain experience.

Reporter: What programmes has Hanoi’s HCYU introduced to perform the task in a flexible and effective manner?

Nguyen Ngoc Viet: The municipal HCYU has set up and called for young member’s participation in a club on dissemination of good examples on social media.

In 2020, activities will be upgraded, focusing on new models and innovative ideas. Voluntary activities are to take place in the city as well as mountainous, disadvantaged and disaster-hit regions.

In particular, the city’s HCYU will promote the implementation of long-term projects on ideological education, civilised lifestyle, drug prevention, career counselling and vocational training for the youths.

Reporter: Thank you so much!./.
