The country has a lot of work to do in its fight against corruption,requiring a high degree of patience and determination, Party GeneralSecretary Nguyen Phu Trong said at the third meeting of the CentralSteering Committee for Anti-Corruption.
Presiding over themeeting on July 17 in Hanoi, the Party leader said in thiscomplicated and long-term struggle, all relevant agencies must continuemaking all-out efforts and pay more attention to institutional buildingwork while increasing their supervision of key areas and fields prone tocorruption.
Party General Secretary Trong praised thecommittee’s efforts in the detection and punishment of corrupt acts aswell as contributions made by the National Assembly, the FatherlandFront and the whole political system as well as the press to the fight.
However, he said, many flaws remained in preventing andcombating corruption such as inconclusive attitudes of several branchesand agencies, unfinished legal system, slow settlement of major cases,plus an array of limitations in awareness-raising work.
He urgedthe committee, in the second half of this year, to pay more attentionto information dissemination work and prevention measures.
The committee must focus on handling a number of corruption cases that draw public concerns, the Party chief added.
The meeting mapped out eight core tasks for the remaining months suchas popularising the revised law on anti-corruption and launching theteaching of anti-corruption contents in schools.
The committee will also participate in the process to revise corruption-related contents of the 1992 Constitution.
Seven working groups headed by the committee’s members will beestablished to inspect the performance of several branches andlocalities nationwide in anti-corruption work.
In the first halfof this year, the inspection sector conducted 4,724 administrativeinspections and over 89,000 intensive inspections in certain fields,focusing on land management, capital construction and budget managementand spending.-VNA
The inspections discovered the inappropriate use of 12.2 trillion VND and 452 ha of land.
From January 1 to May 31 this year, 100 corruption cases were put ontrial with 196 defendants, the People’s Supreme Procuracy reported.
