Jakarta (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met Vice Chairmen of the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia Evert Ernest Mangindaan and Hidayat Nur Wahdid in Jakarta on August 22.
Trong told them that his visit, at the invitation of President Joko Widodo, aims to reach consensus on orientations to further deepening bilateral strategic partnership and strengthening political trust.
Mangindaan affirmed that Indonesia always treasures ties with Vietnam for the benefit of the two peoples and believed that the visit would promote bilateral links across politics, national defence-security, economy, trade, investment, culture, education, tourism, people-to-people exchange and cooperation between localities.
Both sides expressed wish that the two legislatures would actively contribute to Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership via building legal documents and issuing favourable mechanisms for the two countries’ economy, trade and investment.
They agreed that the Vietnamese National Assembly and the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia should facilitate visits by their senior leaders and officials, regularly share information and offer mutual support at regional and global parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APFF).
Hosts and guest committed to pushing forward practical and effective strategic partnership, working closely together at regional and global forums, including strengthening solidarity, unity and maintaining ASEAN’s central role in regional architectures.-VNA
