Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of VietnamCentral Committee Nguyen Phu Trong has been recommended by the NationalAssembly (NA) Standing Committee for the legislators to vote as State Presidentfor the 2016-2021 tenure.
Whilepresenting the NA Standing Committee’s proposal during the legislature’s plenumon October 22, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the vote is based onArticle 74 of the 2013 Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam;Article 8 of the law No.57/2014/QH2013 on the organisation of the NA; Article31 of the rules on NA sessions; and point 4 of Resolution No.34, dated October6, 2018 of the eighth plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee.
Earlier, at its recent eighth plenum, the Party Central Committeereached consensus to nominate Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who isalso a deputy of the 14th NA, for the presidency.
The NA will also approve the removal of Truong Minh Tuan from the post ofMinister of Information and Communications, and consider the appointment of anew minister.
Ngan suggested the lawmakers to meticulously study relevant personnel documentsin order to cast informed votes.
The sixth session, which opened on October 22 and will last for 24 days, issaid to be a historic meeting with many other important issues on theagenda.
The Government is for the first time required to report on the outcomes of thelast three years of implementing the NA’s resolutions on socio-economicdevelopment, economic restructuring, national finance, and mid-term publicinvestment with a view to removing bottlenecks to fulfil the targets set forthe 2016-2020 period.
Another item on the NA’s working agenda that attractsgreat interest is the vote of confidence on officials holding positions electedor approved by the NA. The vote will be held during the first few days of thesession, before question-and-answer sessions take place.
It is noteworthy that the NA is expected to ratify the Progressive Agreementfor Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and relevant documents at this session.This is an important pact which will greatly influence the country’s politics, economy,society, and diplomacy.
Lawmaking is always a predominant feature and majortask at NA sittings. At this session, the NA deputies are expected to adoptnine bills and one resolution.–VNA
