Hanoi (VNA) –
General Secretary of the Communist Party of VietnamNguyen Phu Trong has highly valued the significance of the current Vietnamvisit by US President Donald Trump, saying it contributes to promoting thebilateral ties and the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting hosted byVietnam.

During his meeting in Hanoi on November 12, General Secretary Trong highlightedthe development of relations between the two countries since the normalisation oftheir ties, saying that there is room for both sides to expand cooperation.

He proposed the two sides, together with improving cooperation’s effectiveness  in economics and trade, continue strengtheningpolitical trust and high-level contacts while boosting collaboration in education,human resources development and science-technology and coordination atmultilateral forums.

He express his belief in the further development of the Vietnam-US relations inthe future for the benefits of the two countries’ people, the region and theworld.

He thanked the US President for his good sentiment on Vietnam and sharingtoward people in central Vietnam who are suffering flood aftermath.

President Trump, for his part, expressed his pleasure to meet Party GeneralSecretary Trong and congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting the APEC EconomicLeaders’ Meeting. He also expressed his impression on the land, people andachievements of Vietnam.

He said the US and Vietnam boast common benefits to increase cooperation in thetime to come.

The President informed his host of the outcomes of his talks with PresidentTran Dai Quang, saying that Vietnam’s trade surplus shows that Vietnam has manifestedeffectiveness in bilateral cooperation in recent years.

He expressed his wish that Vietnam increases the import of products that are theUS’s strength as an effort towards a balance in trade, and boost cooperation inother fields in the coming time.-VNA

Studying the draft documents, local officials, entrepreneurs, scientists and residents agreed with the six key tasks and three strategic breakthroughs proposed. However, many suggested that the documents should place greater emphasis on removing bottlenecks and unlocking available resources; accelerating decentralisation and delegation of authority; and enhancing autonomy and accountability of localities, alongside building high-quality human resources.
