A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Tran Dac Loi, attended the 10 th congress of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (Frelimo) from Sept. 23-28.

Speaking at the congress, Loi highlighted the close relations between the CPV and Frelimo during the national liberation struggles of both countries.

He affirmed Vietnam ’s consistent support for Frelimo ever since its founding 50 years ago, adding that he believed the long-lasting solidarity and friendship between the two nations will be further strengthened in the future.

With the participation of 1,858 delegates, the six-day congress underlined the correct policies of Frelimo which helped stabilise politics, promote economic development and reduce poverty in Mozambique .

It also stressed the country’s diplomatic policy towards Asia, focusing on enhancing cooperation with China and Vietnam .

The congress elected a new central committee with 180 official members and 18 alternate ones. Armando Emilio Guebuza and Filipe Paunde were re-elected as President and General Secretary of the Frelimo.

On the sidelines of the event, the Vietnamese party official met with leaders and members of Frelimo on measures to promote the relations between the two parties.-VNA
