Hanoi (VNA) – The Party Central Committee’s Secretariat has decided to give a warning to Nguyen Van Thien, former Secretary of the Binh Dinh provincial Party Committee, for his wrongdoings between 2010 and 2015.
Under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Secretariat convened a meeting in Hanoi on May 25 to consider a report by the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, which proposed punishment be imposed on Thien, who is a former member of the Party Central Committee and former Secretary of the Binh Dinh provincial Party Committee.
The Secretariat concluded that while serving as Secretary of the Binh Dinh Party Committee in the 2010-2015 tenure, Thien made contributions to local development.
However, through the Inspection Commission’s report on denunciation settlement, the Secretariat realised that as the province’s leader, he was responsible for supplementing candidates and appointing persons, who were unqualified, which were not in conformity with regulations.
On behalf of the provincial Party Committee, Thien also signed a document regarding the equitisation of Quy Nhon Port sent to the Secretary of the Party Delegation to the Ministry of Transport – the Minister of Transport, which was not under the responsibility of the province. That action was made without consulting the provincial Party Committee’s standing board as it should be as in line with the provincial Party Committee’s working regulations.
Thien’s violations affected the prestige of the local Party organisation and his reputation, the Secretariat said, adding that he admitted his violations, shortcomings and responsibility, and voluntarily accepted discipline.
All Secretariat members agreed to take a disciplinary measure of warning against Thien through secret ballots, according to the Secretariat.-VNA
