Hanoi (VNA)– Party and State leaders have presented gifts to poor people and workers acrossthe country ahead of Lunar New Year (Tet) festival which lasts from February2-10 this year.

Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburomember and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, onJanuary 19 visited and presented 100 gift packages to poor households in XuanTam, Phong Du Thuong and Phuong Du Ha communes of Van Yen district in thenorthern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

Vuong and his entouragevisited a resettlement area in Lung hamlet, Phong Du Thuong commune, which washard hit by torrential rains and floods in July 2018.

He asked leaders of Yen Bai and Van Yen district to continue to take care oflocal residents, especially households severely affected by natural disasters.

On this occasion, theJoint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) handedover 6 billion VND (258,000 USD) to Van Chan and Van Yen districts to buildschools in disadvantaged communes.

The same day, DeputyPrime Minister Truong Hoa Binh presented gifts to trade unions and workers atindustrial parks in the Red River Delta province of Hai Duong.

Addressing a year-end gathering held for 410 underprivileged workers in HaiDuong by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour the same day, Binh expressedhis hope that after the holiday, the workers will work harder to complete theirtasks, contributing to the development of businesses, Hai Duong and the countryat large.

On this occasion, Binhvisited the family of a worker of the Hai Duong Urban Environment JSC, who isfacing difficult circumstances.

The provincial LabourFederation also presented gifts, each worth 500,000 VND (21.5 USD) to needyemployees, together with 300,000 VND (12.9 USD) to help them buy tickets toreturn home for Tet.

Also on January 19, TruongThai Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commissionfor Mass Mobilisation, granted gifts to children and social policybeneficiaries in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

She was accompanied by representativesof the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, the Vietnam Red CrossSociety (VRCS) and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children under the Ministryof Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

They presented 100 gift packages to poor children, social policy beneficiariesand Agent Orange/dioxin victims in Duc Trong and Don Duong districts.

The delegation alsovisited the SOS Children’s Village in Da Lat, the provincial Social SponsorCentre and local retirees.

On this occasion, theprovincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and chapters ofthe VFF and VRCS in Lam Dong presented 250 gift packages to local disadvantagedpeople.

The same day, VicePresident Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh visited and presented gifts to patients at theHanoi Oncology Hospital as part of the “Supportive fund for cancer patients –bright future” which will also organise buses to bring the patients home forTet reunion from January 25-30.-VNA

Thai Binh aims to eradicate substandard housing ahead of schedule

Thai Binh province has identified 2,106 eligible households—1,164 requiring new homes and 942 needing home repairs. Each new house receives 100 million VND in aid, while 50 million VND is provided for each repaired home. The total budget for the 2024-2025 period is 163.5 billion VND (6.4 million USD).

Vietnamese students honoured at Asahi scholarship graduation ceremony in Japan

Vietnamese students achieved remarkable successes, excelling in various categories. Seven out of 22 students passed the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test - the highest level - while 16 out of 34 students received the special award.
