Vietnam’s pepper sector will make a record this year as the export revenue is predicted to hit 1 billion USD.

The information was released by Do Ha Nam, President of the Vietnam Pepper Association at its annual meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 22.

Nam predicts that Vietnam will ship about 150,000 tonnes of pepper abroad this year.

In the first five months of 2014, the country’s pepper export is estimated at 90,000 tonnes for around 600 million USD, up nearly 50 percent year-on-year.

According to the VPA President, the sector’s success is attributable to the two-way sharing of information between the VPA, businesses and farmers on production as well as the domestic and international price market.

However, Nam suggested pepper growers pay more attention to organic farming in order to improve the quality of products and ensure hygiene safety.-VNA
