PM asks for focus on rural area development

The Prime Minister has set tasks for the Central Committee for the National New Style Rural Area Building Programme to achieve 20 percent of the total communes nationwide (or 1,800) recognised as modern rural areas in 2015.
The Prime Minister has set tasks for the Central Committee for theNational New Style Rural Area Building Programme to achieve 20 percentof the total communes nationwide (or 1,800) recognised as modernrural areas in 2015.

Key tasks includedeveloping infrastructure facilities serving the essential demands oflocal residents; promoting production in close collaboration withrestructuring the economy to raise incomes for rural labourers;enhancing rural living conditions, social order and security; andstrengthening capacity for supervising programme implementation.

The Committee has been urged to identify specific objectives for2016-2020, ensure their relevancy to local conditions, and allocateappropriate resources to achieve them.

Additionally, the Committee will focus on restructuring agriculture,improving the rural environment, and strengthening education and healthcare services, among others.

In 2014, as many as785 communes nationwide, or 8.8 percent, fulfilled all 19 criteria ofthe programme; 1,285 communes reached between 15 and 18 of the criteria.The nation’s communes have satisfied an average of 10 criteria, doublethe 2010 average.

Buildinginfrastructure, improving production capacity, constructing publicworks, protecting landscapes and the environment, and promoting localtraditions and cultural identities are among the criteria of new-stylerural areas under the programme initiated by the Government in 2010.-VNA

To further advance bilateral ties in the new era, the two leaders agreed to continue making full use of existing cooperation mechanisms across all channels, including meetings between the two Parties, promote exchanges between young leaders and youth from both countries, and expand cooperation between their legislative, executive and judicial bodies, people’s organisations and localities.

This is PM Hung’s first official visit to Cambodia. It holds particular significance, demonstrating the high priority that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam attach to relations with Cambodia and contributing to further deepening the bilateral ties of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”.
