- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 24 attended aceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of liberation of the northernprovince of Bac Kan (August 24, 1949-2019).

Speaking at the event, PM Phuc highlighted the significance of the ceremony,saying that it marks the 70-year historical journey of the struggle fornational liberation, construction and development of the locality - a strong revolutionbase of Vietnam in the past.

He praised the strong and comprehensive development and crucial achievementsrecorded by the province and its integration efforts, describing these asimportant contributions to the national construction and defence.

ThePM asked the local authorities to pay attention to addressing difficultiesfacing the province in education-training, health care, human resourcesdevelopment, poverty reduction, towards creating impetus for further promotingBac Kan’s development.

The locality should fully tap its potential and strength, as well as mobiliseand effectively use resources, accelerate economic restructuring, enhanceapplication of science and technology in order to improve agricultural andforest productivity and quality, PM Phuc said.

Attentionshould be paid to expanding the development of mining, processing andmanufacturing industries, handicraft sector, as well tourism and service, headded.

The leader also required the local authorities to focus on completing planningof transport infrastructure development, and policies of investment attraction;improving business environment, promoting administrative reform, building e-government;preventing corruption and reducing waste.-VNA

Comprehensive development is also done across fields of culture, society,health, education, training, environmental protection, he stressed.-VNA

To accommodate surging travel demand and keep transport operations running smoothly, the PM instructed relevant bodies to boost transport capacity, particularly public passenger services, to ensure seamless connections at railway stations, airports, bus terminals and ferry ports. Authorities were told to ensure that no travellers are left stranded or delayed in returning home for Tet due to a shortage of transport, while strictly preventing fare gouging and unlawful price hikes. Proactive measures to curb traffic accidents and congestion during the peak holiday period were also highlighted.
