PM directs settlement of Lam Dong landslide, response to heavy rains

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh onJuly 31 issued a dispatch requesting efforts to overcome the consequences of a landslidein Bao Loc Pass, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, and preparedness against heavyrains in the Central Highlands and the south.

ThePeople's Committees of localities in the region were asked to overcome theconsequences of the recent natural disasters and heavy rains, ensuring the locallives and their livelihoods, especially in Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Binh Phuoc,and Kien Giang provinces.

The Chairperson of the Lam Dong provincial People'sCommittee was ordered to take recovery efforts, promptly search for and rescue the missing, as well asidentify the cause of the incident to draw lessons and ensure the safety oftraffic on National Highway 20 and other major transportation routes in theprovince.

The National Steering Committee for Natural DisasterPrevention and Control was tasked with closely monitoring the disastersituation and actively directing and urging localities to adoptprevention, control and settlement measures to minimise the possible damage.

Specific tasks were also assigned to the ministries oftransport, natural resources and environment, agriculture and ruraldevelopment, industry and trade.

On July 30, a landslide occurred on National Highway 20 passing through Bao Loc Pass, which resulted in four people being buried at a police station.

As of 10 pm on July 30, rescuers found and identified three bodies of the victims.

The Prime Minister also sent his profound condolences to the families of the victims./.

National, local traffic safety committees to be dissolved from June 1

Under the dicision, ministries and ministerial-level agencies will assume responsibility for tasks previously performed by the committee, in line with their mandates under the Law on Government Organisation, the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, the Law on Roads and other relevant legal frameworks, ensuring that traffic safety and order are maintained without disrupiton.
