Results from emulation campaigns and movements nationwide have contributed to achievement of the national 2006-2010 socio-economic development targets, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said.
Addressing the closing session of the two-day eighth National Patriotic Emulation Congress in Hanoi on Dec. 28, PM Dung stressed the country’s resilience to the world’s economic crisis through maintaining macro-economic stability and major balances.
As a result, the national economy grew at an annual rate of 7 percent, per-capital GDP reached 1,160 USD, and the number of poor households dropped to below 9.5 percent, he said.
The PM urged more efforts to maintain socio-political stability, defend national independence, unity and territorial integrity, attain an annual economic growth rate of 7-7.5 percent for the 2011-2015 period, and per-capital GDP of about 2,000 USD by 2015, reduce poverty rate by 2 percent a year, thus turning the country into an industrial nation by 2020.
“To meet the targets, it is necessary to push up national patriotic emulation movements and better the reward work,” he emphasised.
Prime Minister Dung, on behalf of the Government and the Central Rewards-Emulation Council, launched a national emulation campaign themed “Solidarity, dynamism, creativity, emulation for successful implementation of socio-economic development during 2011-2015”.
He called on the entire Party, army and people to promote the patriotism and national unity strength, contributing to successfully implementing the Resolution of the 11 th National Party Congress and the socio-economic development plan for 2011-2015.
First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Vo Van Thuong, on behalf of the country’s youth, responded the appeal, affirming the resolve to promote the role of the youth and volunteers to address the community’s urgent issues./.
