PM meets with Myanmar President

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Myanmar President U Thein Sein discussed measures to further boost bilateral relations during an October 9 meeting on the sidelines of the 23 rd ASEAN Summit in Brunei .

At the meeting, PM Dung emphasisedVietnam ’s consistent policy of attaching importance to its traditionalfriendship and multifaceted cooperation with Myanmar as well asdeveloping the ties in a deeper and more effective manner.

TheVietnamese leader also suggested the two sides continue maintainingdelegation and people-to-people exchanges in order to strengthen mutualunderstanding and trust. They also need to actively coordinate inimplementing their signed agreements, he added.

The PM said hehopes that Myanmar will continue to facilitate Vietnamesebusinesses’ operations in the country, thus increasing two-way trade.

He affirmed Vietnam ’s support for Myanmar to help itfulfil the role as the ASEAN Chair in 2014 with priority given tothe successful implementation of the plan to form the ASEAN Community by2015.

For his part, President U Thein Sein said hiscountry wants to foster cooperation with Vietnam in all fields,especially economics, trade, investment and agriculture.

Healso voiced his wish that Vietnam will share its experience withMyanmar during the year the latter assume the ASEAN Chair, suggestingthe two sides closely cooperate at regional and international forums.
Both leaders highly valued the two Governments’ signing of avisa exemption agreement for ordinary passport s, a step forwardto facilitate the travel of the two countries’ people.-VNA
