The Red River Delta province of Nam Dinh should take full advantage of its human resources, shipbuilding and mechanical engineering industries, handicrafts and maritime economy to develop sustainably.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement during a meeting with leaders of the province on May 10.
“The first thing the province needs to do is focus on agricultural production, seafood, industry and services, to reach a GDP growth rate of over 10 percent and carry out Party congresses at all levels in 2010 ”, he said.
The PM also suggested that Nam Dinh make the best use of its hi-tech industries and attract more investment and apply new technological advances in agricultural production.
The locality also needs to develop its ports and maritime industries such as shipbuilding and seafood processing, he added.
According to the PM, to become an economic centre for the Red River delta, Nam Dinh province needs to focus on building up the infrastructure of the Ninh Co Economic Zone and dyke networks that safeguard agricultural production as well as transport and the province’s socio-economic infrastructure.
The Government leader also praised the efforts made by the provincial authorities and people over the past five years to record many encouraging economic achievements and reduce its poverty rate to under 7 percent.
During the visit, the PM inspected the progress of the new Nam Dinh-Phu Ly highway and the Dao River embankment./.
