PM vows all possible support to workers

Hanoi (VNA) – The government will offer allpossible support to businesses, start-ups and create jobs to workers, PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said.

He made the statement during a working session in Hanoi onJune 28 with Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) todiscuss the outcomes of joint work between the government and VGCL and settasks for 2017-2018.

The PM hailed VGCL chapters at all levels for improvingworkers’ lives and promptly dealing with workers’ complaints from the centralto local level.

VGCL was asked to actively join the government’s mechanismbuilding, with a focus on ensuring rights and interests of workers in theprocess of building a transparent, constructive and action-oriented government inservice of the people and businesses.

The VGCL should step up emulation campaigns to strengthen theworking class’s trust in the Party and State leadership while improving theefficiency of social supervision and enforcement of labour laws, he said.

At the same time, it must work with relevant agencies to offervocational orientations and training to lablourers amid the fourth industrialrevolution.

He urged VGCL to hold more dialogues and meetings betweenthe PM, ministers, heads of sectors and workers to acquire their aspirations.

The leader suggested VGCL partner with the Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the National Wage Council to devise aplan on regional minimum wages to submit to the PM for consideration.

He also responded to proposals by VGCL, including amendingthe Labour Code’s terms regarding extra-work time, retirement age and meals forworkers, soon issuing document guiding the enforcement of point 7, Article 10of the Law on Social Insurance, and providing preferential loans for workers inindustrial and processing zones.

In 2016-2017, the PM met and held dialogues with workers inkey economic zones in the south and central.

In June, the PM issued Decision 665 approving a project onbuilding trade union institutions in industrial and processing zones. VGCL hasbuilt three first trade union institutions in the northern province of Ha Nam,the central province of Quang Nam and the southern province of Tien Giang.-VNA
