Long An (VNA) – On behalf of the Minister of Public Security, Colonel Pham Thanh Tam, Deputy Director of the Long An provincial Department of Public Security, on May 6 handed over the ministry's certificates of merit to two local police officers for their outstanding exceptional performance in rescuing a Chinese child from drowning at San Ho 2 island in Nha Trang city, the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, on January 25.

Previously, the provincial Department of Public Security received a letter of appreciation and a basket of flowers from the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for the action of Captain Nguyen Quoc Dat and Captain Le Duc Anh, public security officers of Tan Hung and Can Duoc districts to save the child when they were visiting the island as part of a political training course.

The child, a Chinese tourist (about 10 years old), had lunch with his family at a nearby restaurant and had entered the pool alone, resulting in a near-tragic incident.

The humanitarian action of the two officers was deeply appreciated by both the local community and tourists, especially Chinese tourists, helping to promote the image of the police force among the community./.
