According to a joint statement released after the meeting, bothleaders devised specific cooperation areas after Abe committed 8.8 billion USDto the Philippines for the next five years during his visit to the country inJanuary.
Areas of infrastructure cooperation over the next five yearswill include the operation of a subway system in metropolitan Manila,increasing connectivity between regions through the construction of roads andbridges, and reinforcing rivers to manage the risk of flooding.
The leaders agreed that Japan will extend the utmost supportfor the rebuilding and revitalisation of Marawi and the surrounding areas,initially providing equipment for reconstruction before considering furtherhelp in line with a survey of the area's needs to be conducted by thePhilippine government.
They also pledged to cooperate with each other for thesuccess of the Philippines' hosting of the Association of Southeast AsianNations and East Asia Summits scheduled for November.
