PM wants stronger agricultural partnership with China

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuchosted a reception for Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu in Hanoi on October 14, during which the PM said that thecountries should promote agricultural cooperation, contributing to balancingbilateral trade.

Lauding the Chinesedelegation’s visit, the PM spoke highly of the partnership between the twoagriculture ministries over the past 70 years and the practical outcomes intheir cooperation with the recent signing of a number of agreements on trade onfarm produce.

He noted that trade tiesbetween Vietnam and China have expanded strongly over the years, and Vietnam isthe biggest trade partner of China among ASEAN members.

For his part, Han thanked theVietnamese PM for supporting the affiliation in agriculture between the twocountries.

He told his host that duringhis talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Cuong, the two sidesdiscussed various issues related to cooperation in agriculture and ruraldevelopment, as well as application of science and technology in agriculture,agricultural product processing, and collaboration mechanisms between the twosides.

PM Phuc proposed that the twoministries should strengthen partnership in science and technology, asking theChinese side to support Vietnam in training agricultural experts.

They should continue workingclosely to popularise to fishermen of the two countries the memorandum ofunderstanding on bilateral cooperationin releasing and protecting aquatic resources, signed between the VietnameseMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Chinese Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Affairs in January, 2017.

He suggested that the twosides strengthen cooperation in dealing with issues related to fishing boatsand fishermen, while pushing ahead with the negotiation and signing of abilateral agreement on the setting up of a hotline for unexpected incidents infishing activities at sea./.
